Seed Production, Processing and Storage

Tentative activities of the bilateral project under this topic are during the ongoing phase:

• Development of a training concept with repeatable modules for improvements in the production, storage, processing, certification and trade of high-quality seed, including methods for traceability, application of ISTA / OECD standards, etc.;

• Joint planning and implementation of two contributions of German and Indian seed industry to exhibitions / fairs / congress in India and / or Germany, coordinated by BDP and NSAI;

• Implementation of Workshops on Post-harvest Technologies for Better Seed Quality (all essential aspects for the reduction of losses as well as the guarantee and assurance of high seed quality during drying, cleaning, seed treatment, storage, processing and packing);

• Implementation of training measures for improvements in the production, storage, processing, certification and trade of high-quality seed, including methods for traceability of seeds, application of ISTA / OECD standards, etc.;

• Implementation of post-training programs with participants of training measures to strengthen application at ground level and institutionalization of upgraded approaches;

• Preparation of training materials such as videos and handouts on good practice examples in the field of seed production, storage and processing;

• Carry-out workshops to evaluate and disseminate the specific learning experiences of the pilot regions;

• Facilitation of further cooperation between Institute of Plant Breeding, Seed Science and Population Genetics of the University of Hohenheim and the PJTSAU in Telangana;

• Conducting preliminary interviews/analysis and selection procedures to identify two suitable new project regions using jointly agreed selection criteria;

• Conduct training needs assessment for different groups of actors in the new project zones and link to existing training programmes;

• Elaboration of training and information materials on “best practices” of production, processing and storage of seed.
